News February 15, Over the years, the breadth and scope of the Club has expanded exponentially. While it was visionary for the founding group to realize the need in the community and start the organization 40 years ago, no one could have envisioned the kind of growth the organization has experienced since that time.
The Neighborhood Learning Community emerged from a deep history of community building in the West Side neighborhood of St. Participants in the NLC bridge four generations, five languages, and include both long-time community residents and recent immigrants. They include parents, grandparents, community organizers, youth workers, children, youth, teachers, social workers, neighbors and citizens. They come together to create new learning projects emerging out of the interests of young people, neighborhood residents and community organizations.

A Utah high school has retouched yearbook photographs of some female students whose pictures may have been too revealing for some adults. Wasatch High School in Heber City, about 50 miles from Salt Lake City, is under fire after it altered the images of some students to show less skin. The school never notified the students before resorting to Photoshop. For some students, it was the arbitrary nature of the adjustments that rankled.
Acting superintendent Brian Nichols recommended Tuesday night that Huntington Middle School close next year, and its rising seventh- and eighth-graders take up residence in a wing of nearby Heritage High School. Current fifth-graders who would have attended Huntington in the fall would be rezoned for the two closest middle schools with neighborhood zones, Hines and Crittenden. Nichols was tasked by the School Board in December with figuring out what to do with the deteriorating Huntington building and its students for the school year.
